Full Septic System Installation Across Connecticut

A septic installation is not a project where you want to cut corners or hand it to someone who will not be around when something comes up. RPM Septic has been installing systems across Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties since 1999. Ralph Merlo is on every job.

We handle the full project: site assessment, permitting coordination with your town’s health department, excavation, system installation, and site restoration. One company, start to finish. No subcontracting the pieces that matter.

If you are building on a new lot, replacing a failed system, or converting from a different waste system, we assess the site and give you a clear picture of what is involved and what it will cost before any work begins.

Core Competencies

Septic Systems We Install

CONVENTIONAL GRAVITY SYSTEMS

The standard residential septic system: tank, distribution box, and drain field. Effluent flows from the tank to the field by gravity. Well-suited for lots with adequate soil perc rates and proper setbacks. Low maintenance, long-lasting when correctly sized and installed.

Common Applications

Wet Basements • Soggy Yards

ALTERNATIVE AND ENGINEERED SYSTEMS

Some lots in Fairfield County do not support a conventional gravity system - the soil perc rate is too slow, the lot is too small, or setback requirements limit placement options. We assess the site and identify what system type is permitted and appropriate. Options vary based on soil test results and local health department requirements.

Common Applications

Driveway Pooling • Gutter Runoff

RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL

RPM handles both residential and commercial septic installations. The system type, size, and permitting process differ, but the standard is the same. Ralph oversees every installation regardless of project size.

Common Applications

Septic Protection • Yard Saturation

Understanding Water Dynamics

Why Installation Quality Determines System Longevity

A septic installation is a significant project. Understanding what goes into it helps you evaluate what you are being quoted and why certain decisions matter.

Why Proper Installation Matters

A septic system that is installed correctly and maintained regularly should last 25 to 30 years or more. A system that is improperly sized, poorly sited, or installed with shortcuts can fail in a fraction of that time.

How Soil Testing Affects System Design

Soil conditions in Connecticut vary significantly across Fairfield County. The perc rate – how quickly water moves through the soil – determines what type of system is appropriate and how large the drain field needs to be. An undersized or incorrectly sited field will struggle from the beginning. Getting the site assessment right is the most important part of the installation.

Understanding Septic Permits and Inspections

Permitting is another area where experience matters. Connecticut requires health department permits for new septic installations. The permit process involves soil testing, site plans, and inspections at specific stages of the project. Working with a contractor who knows the local process – and has relationships with the health departments in the towns they serve – saves time and avoids costly mistakes.
